Our journey through Acceptance continues with our second book of the year, The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest.
This deeply insightful book explores the ways we hold ourselves back through self-sabotage and how we can overcome inner resistance to create lasting change.
Wiest reminds us that we are often our own greatest obstacles—our “mountains.” But rather than seeing these struggles as barriers, we can learn to understand them, work with them, and ultimately, transform them. By bringing self-awareness and compassion to our patterns, we open the door to growth, healing, and greater self-acceptance.
For this session, we’ll focus on two key themes:
1. *Self-Sabotage (Chapter 2)* – How do we unconsciously stand in our own way? What hidden fears, beliefs, or behaviours might be preventing us from reaching our full potential?
2. *Acceptance & Transformation* – Instead of fighting against ourselves, how can we embrace who we are, where we are, and use that acceptance as a foundation for change?
*Journaling & Reflection Questions for Our Discussion*
We’ll be using the journaling questions from page 66 to deepen our exploration of self-sabotage. Here are a few other key prompts to reflect on before or during our session:
* What is one recurring pattern of self-sabotage in your life? Where does it stem from?
* In what ways do you resist change, even when you know it’s what you need?
* How can acceptance—not resistance—help you work through these patterns with self-compassion?
* If you fully trusted yourself, what choices would you make differently?
Self-sabotage often arises when we struggle to accept our emotions, our past experiences, or even our own potential. The Mountain Is You teaches us that the key to breaking these patterns is not through force, but through understanding and acceptance. When we stop fighting ourselves and start working with ourselves, real transformation begins.
